"This recording was made in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in the summer of 1997, while the group was appearing at the Atlantic Jazz Festival. I wanted to keep things simple and unpretentious, enabling us to capture the spirit of a live performance - there was no time, nor inclination to rehearse for the sessions. All the original compositions represented on this recording were played down for the first time in the studio (with the exception of "Kirk's Blues). To balance the program we decided on a few standards that we have enjoyed playing as a group. I would like to thank Lorne, Jerry and Neil for their beautiful interpretations of my tunes, and their fine playing throughout this recording." |
